Escherichia coli O-antigen Database
Escherichia coli (named after
Theodor Escherich, 1857-1911)
is a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium.
Like all gram-negative bacteria it has an inner and outer membrane. The latter is covered by
lipopolysaccharides, LPS, which consist of an O-antigen, a core structure and a lipid A moiety.
This database contains structures of the repeating units that comprise the O-antigen.
Using the database
Items in the database can be accessed in three ways from the menu above.
Either the desired item can be selected from a complete listing of the database using
List or the database can be searched by
any data contained in the records using
Search. In addition to this it is
possible to browse the database using the
Summary Table.
This table also shows glycosyltransferase status of each serogroup and gives a statistical summary
of the database.
Citing this database
This database was created in during the preparation of a review of

Linking to a database entry
You may create links to database entries using the database number.
E. g. :
<a href="http://www.casper.organ.su.se/ECODAB/show.php?81">O4</a>
Creates a link to entry 81, i. e. the O4 antigen.
