Escherichia coli O-antigens
Escherichia coli (named after
Theodor Escherich, 1857-1911 )
is a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium.
Like all gram-negative bacteria it has an inner and outer membrane. The latter is covered by
lipopolysaccharides, LPS, which consist of an O-antigen, a core structure and a lipid A moiety.
This database contains structures of the repeating units that comprise the O-antigen.
Using the database
Items in the database can be accessed in two ways from the menu above.
Either the desired item can be selected from a complete listing of the database using
List or the database can be searched by

Citing this database
This database was created in during the preparation of a review of E. coli O-antigens
by Stenutz, Weintraub and Widmalm. The review is in manuscript and a proper citation will be
added as soon as it has been published.
Linking to a database entry
You may create links to database entries using the database number.
E. g. :
<a href="http://www.casper.organ.su.se/casper/cgi-bin/ECODAB/show.cgi?81">O4</a>
Creates a link to entry 81, i. e. the O4 antigen.
